Our Independent Living arrangements are designed for seniors who want to maintain an active lifestyle without the burdens of home ownership. Fahrney-Keedy offers cottages and apartments loaded with all the comforts and amenities of home. A reasonable monthly fee covers home maintenance services – so you have more time to enjoy life.

Within an hour's drive you will find symphonies, museums, major league sporting venues, parks, Civil War attractions, golf courses, outlet malls and an abundance of restaurants.

As with all retirement plans at Fahrney-Keedy, access to emergency health care is available on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cottages

  • Ranging in size from 1,000 to 2,500 square feet, each with two or three bedrooms and situated on an open rural campus
  • Each with full kitchen, garage and laundry
  • Low monthly fee covers sewer, water and trash service, lawn mowing, snow removal and more

Fahrney-Keedy is registered by the Maryland Department of Aging as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).

Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village is licensed as a fully certified Medicare / Medicaid facility.  We offer a nurturing and caring environment while meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of older adults.  Our large transitional care unit bridges the gap between today's shorter hospital stays and home recovery.

If Skilled Nursing is needed, our compassionate and dedicated staff is available around the clock to provide the highest quality care available.  Our continuing education, training and certifications keep us poised to evolve through the current century of continuing retirement care.

Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village is a Licensed Level III Assisted Living facility.

We offer a wide range of Assisted Living options, bridging the gap between Independent Living and the need for nursing care.  Designed for those seniors who want to maintain their independence and privacy but require some support and/or supervision.

Dementia & Alzheimer's Care

The Bowman Center specializes in elder care for persons with Alzheimer's and other memory impairments. All of our Assisted Living residents gain security as well as privacy in a comfortable, homelike surrounding.

  • Neurological and Plastic Surgery services with physicians who make rounds in the facility.

  • Rehabilitation services
  • Pharmacy service that provides daily delivery
  • Emergency medical service
  • Nursing care is also available to Independent and Assisted Living residents on a fee-for-service basis.
  • Our rehabilitation team can provide on-site physical, occupational and speech therapies. The therapy is individualized based on the needs, abilities and medical limitations of each resident. The goal is to restore the person’s lost function and maximize his/her rehabilitation potential.
  • Transportation services for appointments and other activities outside the facility are provided at a reasonable cost.
  • Outside Gazebo / Picnic Pavilion
    • Both the gazebo and pavilion are near the main building and allow for private and group gatherings. The gazebo is amid a grassy stretch with numerous shade trees; the pavilion is a multiple-function area good for community events or family picnics.
  • Chapel - Chaplaincy Program
    • Please join us in the chapel at 10 a.m. on Sundays for worship and at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays for a vespers service. The chaplain is available to assist the residents with their spiritual needs and concerns. For further information concerning the chaplaincy program and services offered, you may contact the chaplain, Sharon Peters, at 301-671-5008.
  • Dining Facilities
    • Fahrney-Keedy residents enjoy fine food and socializing with friends and neighbors in an attractive dining room. Tray meals are delivered to those residents who are unable to go to the dining room. Delicious meals are served daily with full menu selection at breakfast, lunch, and supper. Guests are always welcome. On the first Sunday of each month, a brunch buffet breakfast is offered in the dining room, open to the public. To confirm time and make reservations for the brunch, please call (301)-671-5009.
  • Library
    • A wide array of current books, magazines and newspapers is available in this room, conveniently situated on the first floor of the main building. Comfortable chairs are provided for a relaxing read, and a table gives space for research or other “spread-out” work.
  • Guest Room
    • Fahrney-Keedy offers reasonably priced guest facilities for the convenience of out-of-town relatives and friends of residents.
  • Gift Shop
    • Gifts, crafts and numerous “must-have” supplies are available at this conveniently located shop on the first floor of the main building. Hours of Operation: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 12 noon to 2 p.m – depending upon volunteer availability.
  • Family Center
    • This space, in the basement, is set up for family or other group gatherings. Relaxing seating is available as well as table space. Ping pong and other recreational opportunities also are provided.
  • Computer
    • A computer with Internet access and printer is available for all residents’ use, near the Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living departments on second floor of the main building.
  • Parlor
    • Suitable for some personal quiet time, small gatherings or group receptions, this area just off the Main Entrance Hallway is furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs. Reading material is available, as are a piano and organ for residents’ and family members’ use. Occasional concerts by visiting musicians also occur here.
  • Lounges, Rest Areas
    • In numerous places inside the Main Building are couches or easy chairs, some near puzzles, card tables – and even a fish tank – giving residents and their visitors a homey place to relax awhile.
  • Auditorium
    • A multi-purpose room in the basement, this largest gathering space in the Main Building is site of many events each month for the Fahrney-Keedy community.

AARP Driver Safety Class
From 9 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, August 24, in Fahrney-Keedy's Board Room. Open to the public. AARP offers this class for drivers age 50 and older; it's a refresher on rules of the road and how to navigate in traffic conditions that likely have intensified since many older drivers first received their licenses. Cost: $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members. Register by calling Judy Brewer, Washington County Commission on Aging, at 301-790-0275, ext. 220.
